Matera 2019

Matera 2019 will take part in the Milan Design Week from 4th to 9th April, the most important international design event, with the Open Design School one of the pillar project of Matera 2019.

The Open Design School is a living lab for interdisciplinary experimentation, a platform that will be the main feature of Matera 2019 cultural programme. Its main goal is to set up a workshop for design and production which can enhance the creative and design resources of the city, of the region, of Italy and Europe in order to self-produce locally as much of the design strategy, hardware and technological competences as are needed to realize the full programme of cultural events in 2019.
First example in Italy, the Open Design School will be a horizontal platform, a place of interdisciplinary learning and experimentation without strict hierarchies in which everyone learns from everyone, in an atmosphere of mutual enrichment.
During the Milano Design Week Matera 2019 will occupy the central courtyard of Palazzo Clerici with an installation designed by Open Design School. The installation will form an open arena and stage with seating for debates, screenings, performances.
Matera 2019 will organize some events but also putting the structure at the disposal of other participants in Atelier Clerici 2017 and other institutions, friends, groups or individuals who are looking for a venue to present lectures & talks. There is a full program of interesting events!

In the week when Milan becomes the European capital of design, Matera 2019 will officially launch the Open Design School. The key event of the Milan week for Matera 2019 will be held on April 6th at 4:30 pm, where the Open Design School will be presented during a public talk with the participation of Joseph Grima, curator of the project.

Culture in Matera all along 2019 will be dialogue for an Open Future. Let's start in Milan!
