From the old world comes the new
Matera 2019 presents the Aarhus 2017 Model of Sustainability
Matera 2019 made the concept of sustainability one of the fundamental values of the project they presented in their candidature dossier. The city is, in fact, home to a major model of sustainability through its example of the delicate harmony between man and the landscape.
Aarhus, the European Capital of Culture 2017 in Denmark, was the first to present a Sustainability Model tied in with its cultural programme, thus focusing attention on the relationship between man and nature, and offers inspiration for a more sustainable way of life.
Culture gives us new eyes with which to see new opportunities, encourage dialogue, gain knowledge of virtuous experiences and alternative solutions.
How can we inspire from the Aarhus Model to Basilicata? We will build it together at Casa Cava on 28 February and 1 March, using our knowledge of national and international cases, sources of inspiration, as well as local situations that are already making use of and planning the future with cultural and environmental sustainability in mind. If you are one of these businesses, please write to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with “28 February 2017 meeting sign up” on the subject line. In the body of your email please tell us your name, contact info and a brief description of the case or experience you would like to present. You will have ten minutes for your presentation. We will accept requests to the end of business hours on Saturday, 25 February.
At the end of the presentations, we will, together, choose the case that will represent Matera 2019 at the Samsø Sustainability Festival in June 2017, a part of the Aarhus 2017 cultural programme.
Matera 2019 is already an active supporter of the Aarhus Model of Sustainability starting with the planning phases of this event! No machines and only recyclable products and exclusively digital communication will be used, and locally grown and bred food eaten.
