The Numistro Battle
In the future, everybody will be famous for 15 minutes, said Andy Warhol in the Sixties.
In Matera every town will be Capital for one Day, we can say; and Muro Lucano will respond to this in September 2019, when the entire community will take part in the organisation and the staging of events regarding the Battle of Numistro, during which the Roman Army faced Hannibal’s Carthaginian army on the battlefield.
The event will involve schools, institutions and associations, and will open on the evening of 21st September with a convention on 210 BC, the year of the battle. On 22nd September it will be possible to visit two perfectly rebuilt military camps, with 180 extras.
In order to recreate an evocative experience for the visitors, the street of living history will be followed, including the reconstruction of the camp structure with its activities: all day long we can attend the legionary’s training, the equipment maintenance, Hannibal’s women’s spinning and weaving activities, in a context which removes every modern element and dives into the past.
