The Land Of Saints And Brigands
'We will make Italy or die' was Garibaldi’s motto during the war that led to the unification of the country. A violent and bloody road, linked in this area to the firsts episodes of banditry. In these lands a conflict brought the repression of more than a hundred male and female brigands. This fundamental period in the Unification of Italy will be recalled by the town of Ripacandida during the events of its Capital for a Day.
An Emotional Journey Amongst The Attractions And Delights Of Ripacandida
'We will make Italy or die' was Garibaldi’s motto during the war that led to the unification of the country. A violent and bloody road, linked in this area to the firsts episodes of banditry. In these lands a conflict brought the repression of more than a hundred male and female brigands. This fundamental period in the Unification of Italy will be recalled by the town of Ripacandida during the events of its Capital for a Day.
Combining the sacred and the profane in stories about local saints and brigands, the entire community will be the voices of the brigands who were killed, almost a narrative counterpart to the life of the blessed Suor Maria di Gesù, the Prioress of the cloistered convent of the Carmelite Sisters of Ripacandida.
During the two-day event, there will be musical performances alternating with stories about the most important figures in the city. Meanwhile, the voices of the women and the men of the mountains will be heard in plays recalling episodes from the last century, while images and footage of Suor Maria di Gesù will be shown all day.
Two musical sessions will close the event: a classical music quartet from Ripacandida will conclude the first day’s event, while the pop rock band I Guai will entertain the public at the end of the second day.
