--- 1th june 2016 update

With funding having been released, work is commencing towards the implementation of one of the two main projects of the Matera 2019 bid book, the Open Design School which will be the first school of design in Europe shaped around the principles of “Open Culture".

The first Open Design School workshop will be held throughout the months of September and October 2016. Currently, we are concluding the procedures for the selection of the 15 participants in the workshop, to be announced mid-June together with the two coordinators.

--- 30th december update

Thank you for all the people replying to the call. We received about 230 applications for participants of the first workshop of the Open Design School Matera! The selection panel is working to complete rapidly the selection. We believe we will be able to communicate the results of the call in the half of January.

Therefore, the workshop will start later, presumably in the first half of February.

--- 23th december update

We apologise to communicate that, as for the call for coordinators, we have to postpone the publication of the results of the call for 15 participants of the first preparatory workshop of the Open Design School Matera, to the next Board of Directors meeting, presumably next week.

Due to unforeseen obligations, members of Matera 2019's Board of Directors were not able to complete the discussion on today’s agenda items, included the results of the call for coordinators of the first workshop of Open Design School Matera.

We apologise to communicate that the publication of the results has been postponed to next week or, however, to the next meeting of the Board of Directors.

--- 17th december update

Thank you for participating in the call for coordinators of the first workshop of the Open Design School Matera! We received 112 applications.
Two persons have been chosen to cooperate with the workshop leaders and preparing the documentation of the workshop. The results of the call will be published in the afternoon of Friday 18^th December, following the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation is pleased to launch an open call to participate in the first preparatory workshop for the Open Design School Matera.

As one of the cornerstones of the cultural program of Matera 2019, the Open Design School will be the first design school in Europe shaped around the principles of Open Culture with a particular emphasis on the role of design as a distinctive form of cultural practice in the reconstruction processes of communities, cities and of society as a whole. ODS will be a school where one learns by doing: through a continuous process of creative exchange between art, science and technology, that is based on the idea that the sharing of knowledge must be central to the civic life of any given city.  The school will be a place for interdisciplinary exchange in which learning will take place through prototyping and experimentation. It will bring together local and European designers, artists, artisans, web developers, diplomats, students, professionals and academics.

The first intensive workshop for the Open Design School workshop will take place in Matera from 15 January through 28 February 2016: the objective will be that of developing the concept for a highly innovative theatre/performance space inside an 18th century quarry –this space will host a portion of the activities for Matera 2019– and to contribute to the design and planning of the Open Design School and the Matera Foundation’s future site in Matera’s Sassi.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for 15 –local, national and European– participants with different profiles : project architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, interaction designers, lighting designers, visual designers, sound designers, artists, wood artisans/carpenters/craftsmen, sociologists, photographers, filmmakers, economists and surveyors.

Call for participants workshop ODS

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING for 2 persons who will be in charge to support the coordination and document the activities of the first preparatory workshop for the Open Design School Matera.

The coordinators will work full time from 21 December through 15 March 2016. They  will work in close cooperation with the workshop leaders.

Applications for coordinators may be submitted up to 23.00 pm on  December 14st
